In April, I learned the term “nobi” from an interview with the Hyogo Prefectural Police. This refers to “shinbikomi,” a method of theft that occurs while residents are at home, stealing valuables. In an incident that took place in Kobe, a man encountered a burglary gang late at night and, despite feeling fear, managed to limit the damage. The police arrested four Vietnamese individuals in connection with about 50 incidents. Among last year’s break-in thefts, shinbikomi accounted for 10.5%, with perpetrators targeting the idea that “if someone is home, there is a wallet.” As security measures are increasingly being demanded, the man implemented home security after the incident.
