Tokyo requests that China thoroughly deal with the social media posts including those referring to Japanese schools in China, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoshifumi Tsuge told Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong in Beijing on Monday, according to a Japanese statement. In response, Sun said the killing was an “isolated” case.
The exchange laid bare the divisions between the neighbors after concerns that China’s history of anti-Japan rhetoric has prompted attacks on Japanese people. Last week, a 10-year-old boy died after being stabbed while on his way to school in the southern city of Shenzhen, while a Japanese mother and child were attacked in June.
